Dress alterations for the fit you want

Everyday dresses, designer pieces, evening gowns, prom dresses and occasion wear—carefully fitted and altered in-house at 78 Bridge Street.

Alterations for almost every style of dress

A dress can often be shortened, reshaped, repaired or restyled, but the right method depends on its fabric and construction. We inspect the garment, discuss how you want it to fit and explain what is realistically possible before starting. Walk-ins are welcome, with private fitting rooms available.

What we can do

Complete dress tailoring and repairs

Length and hems

Shorten or lengthen where fabric allows; level uneven hems; retain decorative borders; alter straight, curved, layered and lined hems.

Taking in and letting out

Adjust the bust, waist, hips, side seams and centre back; reshape darts; let out available seam allowance where construction permits.

Tapering and reshaping

Slim or reshape the silhouette, skirt and bodice; adjust princess seams, darts and panels for a cleaner fit.

Straps, sleeves and shoulders

Shorten straps; lift shoulders; add, remove or reshape sleeves; narrow sleeve width; adjust armholes and sleeve length.

Necklines and bodices

Raise or reshape necklines; improve bust fit; adjust cups, modesty panels and bodice support where suitable.

Zips, linings and fastenings

Replace or repair zips, hooks, buttons and loops; repair or replace damaged linings and reinforce weak seams.

Prom and evening dresses

Alter layered skirts, delicate fabrics, lace, beading, sequins, boning, straps and trains with care.

Splits, pockets and details

Raise, lower or close splits; add practical details where construction allows; repair trims and reposition embellishments.

Repairs and restyling

Mend tears and open seams, patch suitable fabrics, refresh a favourite dress or discuss a more substantial restyle.

This list is a guide, not a limit. Some alterations depend on available fabric, seam allowance, print placement, lace or beading. Bring the dress in for a free assessment.
